Community Garden Network
In January 2010, Green Spaces awarded funding to the 25th community garden in our network. Groups of enthusiastic neighbors form core groups to design, build, and maintain all the community gardens in San Antonio.

Join the community garden network
We also encourage individuals and groups to get involved. Families, businesses and incorporated groups may become supporting members of Green Spaces Alliance, start a community garden and join the network or volunteer on one or more occasions at one or more gardens.
Community Garden Network members share knowledge, experiences, techniques, and excess resources with other network community gardens by:
- Utilizing the services of Green Spaces Alliance and other organizations that will sustain their garden over time and through transitions.
- Attending informative workshops that will extend their knowledge base.
- Strengthening their ability to maintain a healthy community garden.
- Spreading the word about how community gardens benefit the community and the environment.
Members of network gardens will receive invitations to an on-line forum containing gardening techniques and material resources, referrals to/from volunteers and groups interested in helping gardens grow, information about funding opportunities, access to a huge databank of garden how-to’s, and discounts when attending our educational programs. Upon request, members of network gardens may receive a quarterly compilation of updates to the forum.
Feel free to contact us. Our community gardens program manager will offer you advice and ask you when she can meet your group or visit your garden.
Support existing and future gardens
Gardens flourish through your generosity. On an individual basis, you are invited to participate in the network by becoming a supporting member of Green Spaces Alliance, an active member of a network community garden, or a volunteer on one or more occasions at one or more gardens.
If you don't have the time to join a garden or volunteer once in a while, there are several other ways that you can support community gardens in San Antonio.
- Donate to Green Spaces Alliance or become a member.
- Do some spring cleaning: clean out your storage shed and donate underused equipment to community gardens in San Antonio.
- Sponsor a tree, bench, planter box, set of tools, or a whole garden and have your name posted in that garden
- Offer your land: neighborhood groups are required to obtain land use agreements for a minimum of five years. Do you have a parcel of land for a neighborhood group that's looking?
Offer your service: if you have connections in the landscaping, nursery, irrigation, or construction industry, please consider donating employee time, materials, or discounts on merchandise.
We’d be happy to play matchmaker between a landowner with an eye for green space and community development and a community group that wants to start a garden if your contribution meets certain site requirements. With your help, the gardeners’ vision for a productive and beautifying garden can become a reality.
Volunteer
Volunteers do more than pull weeds; we have a long list of ways for you to help out at a community garden. Express your interest, skills and availability by signing up here.
Contact us to find the garden nearest you or check out our online calendar for upcoming garden celebrations, events, and volunteer workdays.
Mentor
Many community gardeners are green-behind-the-ears when it comes to gardening in central Texas. They come with little experience and lots of desire. You can become a garden’s mentor by offering your years of experience, advice and encouragement.
